About Château de l'Engarran red 2006

This is a gentle, fairly dense young syrah-based red with ripe blueberry, chocolate, mint and black licorice aromas. Medium full bodied and soft with fine, gritty tannin, that still needs another year. Loads of licorice on the finish. Very smooth with very good to excellent length. Best 2010 to 2014.

I have been enjoying this wine since it first started to appear in Ontario many (?) vintages ago. It's still very fine value and would make a great house wine for the autumn-winter. You'll enjoy the complexity and appeal of Mediterranean herbs and ripe black fruit-cassis character on those chilly nights with a hearty lamb stew or game roast. Decant this a good hour before serving for maximum fun.

There's a boatload of zest and tang in this well-structured offering. Aromas of toasty spicy notes segue racy flavours of red currant and sour cherry. There's ample body and texture here that's partially provided by its firm tannin structure. The zesty finish lingers. This pairs perfectly with pasta in a tomato-based sauce like lasagna or pasta putenesca.

Solidly crafted and imminently delicious aromas of dark chocolate and blackberries. Full-bodied with cigar box wrap.
